Lola and Lolo are finally here.....

Yesterday, we fetched my in laws at SeaTac Airport. We are all excited for them, that finally they were able to visit USA. Right now they are still adjusting on their sleep schedule. Gabz was so happy, that she always bagged her Lolo and lola to play with her. Yesterday, she asked her lolo to make her a paper boat! After that they have it floated on the kitchen sink. She was excited that she keeps on following her lolo around, every time her lolo disappears, she would asked me; Mommy where is everybody?" I think she is happy that finally we have other people in the house. She was used to have the two of us during the day, so having company makes her happy.

I hope lola and lolo will enjoy their stay here in the US. Lolo made a comment that Seattle is hotter than Philippines. When they arrived it was all time high here in Seattle, we have 110 degrees temperature for the first time since 1981! The house is like an oven and we are half bake. LOL. There was a shortage in electric fan in all stores here in Seattle. We tried to buy an electric fan, went to five stores before we could find a small fan. Whew! Hopefully the temperature will go down next week. I don't enjoy the summer anymore, if the temp will go on like this. Not so good for a preggy like me!

Always Be Prepared

Toddlers and baby's need more stuff than we do every time we go for a trip or just a day at the lake. If you have a toddler or a baby, you need to be prepared always. The trick is to foresee what they can possibly do and pack things to remedy the situation.

Lola and Lolo are Coming!

My parents in law are coming next week here in the US. After two years of applying for a visa, finally they were granted a 10 years visa. Everybody were so happy because it was Dads dream to visit America. A good timing too since I will be giving birth by September. At least someone are here to help us a little bit. Gabz is excited too to see her Lola and Lolo (grandmother & grandfather). We decided to have them here earlier for them to be able to adjust to the weather first and foremost and to enjoy the summer here in Seattle. When fall and winter arrive they will be spending most of their time indoor. I am pretty sure everyone will get bored!

My husband has been planning and thinking were to bring them, scouting nice places here in Seattle. I know there are plenty, it is just a matter of organizing what they wanted to see and visit. Seattle is beautiful, very rich in natures gifts. All year round, there are a lot of things that you can do. (if you are not pregnant like me..hehehe)

Surprised Birthday Party for a Friend

Last Saturday, we gave a surprised Birthday party for a friend Beth at Lake Sammamish Park. It was a beautiful day, lots of people are trying to take advantage of the sun. The guys set up some volleyball and we set up the food of course.

The birthday celebrant does not have a single clue, not even why she is on her way to the park. Her husband make up some story of them watching a Boeing hydroplane in the park. She only became suspicious when she saw me and Maricel at the park supposedly hiding behind the tree.

That is her son giving her flowers. She was teary eyed because for the first time in her 40th something life, somebody gave her a surprised party.

Lunch and dinner and series of volleyball games at the park with lots of things to talk about with good food and with good friends. No other way to spend the day better than that !

Karaoke

Tonight, my husband and his friends has Karaoke night here in our house ! I cooked dinner for them and some home made oreo truffle for dessert. It's my first time to make dessert, quite easy and love the taste too. While writing this, they are still singing.

Do you know that Karaoke, is one of the favorite past time of Filipinos, especially when there is a party ? im not saying that Filipinos are good singers, but they just loved to sing. I said "they" and not "we", because I don't sing at all. No matter how much I wanted it, my voice doesn't want to cooperate. So I am just on listening mode always. LOL poor me.

Tomorrow, we have movie night here in the house again and a birthday party at the park on Saturday ! What a busy days huh ?

First Swimming Lesson

Yesterday, we enrolled Gabz to a swimming lesson in a nearby school. After her summer playschool ended, I have been looking for activities to occupy her time. She gets so bored inside the house the whole day. Her routine is to watch TV, watch DVD, play Wii, read her books, practiced writing and running around the house. Sometimes, she would asked me, "Mommy where are we going today?" or "Mommy, whats next?"

I tried to find some activities around the area that would not cost so much. Found these school that offers swimming lessons for just 30 bucks (6 sessions), not bad right? Yesterday, we enrolled her and after an hour she attended her first class. She was ecstatic when she jumped into the water and was giggling and screaming during the class. Her teacher has to asked her to be quite ! She did good in the water without me and her Dad, we just watched at the balcony in case something comes up.

After 30 minutes the class was over. She said that she had fun in the water and keep telling us what she did. I was so proud of her because some of the kids in her class were crying and needs a lot coaxing to get into the water! She had fun and looking forward to her next class!

Bring your family back home to life!

The evolution of digital tools has brought tremendous changes in peoples lives. The power of Internet makes complex things, simpler by just a click of a mouse. Activities for kids!

It's summer and most of the kids are at home. Be resourceful and find ways to entertain them without spending too much money. Kids needs to go out of the house so they could channel their energies into something else rather than making you crazy all day long.

First, check out your local malls. Some malls have story time every once or twice a week for free. Here in Factoria Mall (Bellevue, WA) they have story time twice a week for kids, sponsored by the Local library and YMCA. Below is a group of kids during Thursday story time (11AM).

Second, check you local library for story time schedules. Most libraries have activities for kids. Sometimes they even have shows and movie time. All these for free!

After story time, they encourage kids to do some craft, arts, draw, color, play a game or any activities that relates to the story they just did.

This one is really nice. Gabz is making her own Bee! Teaching kids to do arts and crafts develops their creativity and imagination. Gabz was so proud of her Bee, and it has to be hanged in her wall of achievements so everybody could see it.

In this economic tough time, we always have to find ways to save money. Especially if there is only one income earner in the family.

Just want to share my experience with other mommies out there. Honestly, I am not used in using coupons nor have the patience to cut or keep one when I saw it. Until I met a friend who is a coupon mommy, she always have bundles of coupons in the car, so every time she went to a store, she looks on her coupon clippings to check if there is one. I used to laugh at her, but then she encourage me to used coupons because it saves a lot of money.

So, here I am gathering all the coupons that comes in the mail. At first I could not noticed the savings (especially in the grocery) since you mostly saves just a cents.

Aside from the coupons I get from the mails, I also received coupons from different stores (where I used to shop). The other day, I went to Osh Kosh store to buy some clothes for the new baby and Gabz. I remember that they usually sent me coupons every month, sale, or special promos they have. I printed one in my emails and bring it to the store. It was a 20% coupons for my entire purchase. Guess what ? I saved 44$ for that purchased !!! Gosh, I was so surprised that I could save that much !! Imagine savings 44$ ?

From then on, I promised to myself to save every coupon I could find. If you could not find any coupons, try to do the survey at the back of a store receipt (e.g. old navy, JC Penney, etc) and get 15% off on your next purchase. Don't forget to subscribe to the store where you frequently shops, so they could send you coupons and discounts.

Monday is always my laundry day. Yesterday, while doing laundry I noticed that my husband has very few pair of jeans hanging in his closet. I thought some of it was just in the laundry or in ironing bag, but its not. No wonder he keeps telling me that he has nothing to wear. I think, I will ask him if we could go to the mall and surprise him with a pair of jeans.

Make use of the warranty of your home

It has been more than a month now since we moved into our new home. Living in this house, let you experience the imperfection and flaws of the house. It is a good thing that we have a 30 day warranty (after moving in). At least as early as now we could address the things we noticed in the house.

Prior to the walk through we did the ff:

1. Discuss with my husband the things we noticed in the house.

2. Walk around the house to check things that is broken or not functioning properly.

3. Make a list of the things that needs to be fix.

4. List down all our questions about the house.

5. Schedule the walk through, and get a timeline when they will start working.

Today, I had an appointment with the Warranty personnel of our home builder. I let her know of our concerns in the house and she promised to send someone to fix it the soonest. I know that a month or so is not enough to know all the defects in the house. I am hoping that on the eleventh month (of moving in) we will be able to determine some of it.

Moving into a newly constructed home does not mean that everything will work perfectly. Everything is new, so you have to make sure that everything is working properly. Good thing though that there is a warranty for this kind of thing, otherwise you will be spending hundreds and thousands of dollars to have these fix.

We need another Bed!

Last week, we bought a bed for Gabz room. She used to have a toddler bed but sometimes I saw her lying on her bed with her feet dangling on the floor. My little girl is already big for her toddler bed, that is why we decided to buy her a full size bed so could sleep better at night.

But we need another bed, our guest room is still empty ! My husband's parents are visiting us by end of this month from Philippines, and will be staying with us for six months. We need to furnish the guest room fast ! This bed below will be perfect for our guest room.

We had a blast @ 4th of July with great Food and great friends!

We had a fantastic 4th of July celebration yesterday. In the morning, we joined Gabz friends at the parade in the neighboring community. The kids had a blast walking or riding their bikes around the community while following a fire truck. After that they were rewarded by lollipops, Popsicles, candies, etc. They got a chance to sit on a drivers chair of a fire truck and have their pictures taken together with the firemen.
After the parade, the Paulino's set up the swimming pool for the kids to cool down ! They started swimming at 11AM and had to pull them out the pool around 7PM. Everybody was so tired and hungry, but cannot heard a single complaint.

Of course Filipino party always have plenty of food. The main chief sitting, proud of his menu for the day. Delicious baby back ribs, burgers, hot dogs and the mouth watering chicken barbecue ! Gosh, when it comes to grilled food, nobody beats Eric! Food are always grilled to perfection. This is a potluck party so everybody brought their own menus. Mine was shrimp with cilantro. What's the name of the dish? Still working on it, as it was an experiment dish.

4th of July will not end without the fire works ! Kids love it. Gabz was keep on telling me, "Mommy I want it louder !" while other kids are scared, she wants it loud !

Last night was a great party, especially if you have it with great fiends ! Hope everybody had fun yesterday !

Is Wii good for three years old?

Recently, Gabz has been playing too much Wii games. I think part of it is my fault, because I let her play for two hours sometimes. And of course, her Dad keep buying new games for her too.

Is Wii good for a three year old kid ? For me, it depends on how you control her playing time and the type of games she played. If the game is educational, I think it would help her develop some skills. It could help her think and be creative on the challenges she encounters. It also develop her sensory motor by listening and following instructions.

Sometime, it is difficult for us parents to know what is too much and when is enough, when it comes to our children. As long as we are aware of what we are doing, I think our kids will be fine ! Raising our children is one of the most difficult part of being a parent.

As I mentioned on my previous posts, we had just moved into a new house. Finally a home we could call our own. Being a new home owner, there are a lot of things that we need to take good care by ourselves. A lot of things that we need to buy and set up to protect our property and investment. Putting up a fence, installing door locks and chains and of course setting up a home alarm system the moment we moved into our new home is a must. Protecting our family and property should be one of our top priority. Since we are new in the neighborhood, we do not know what kind of people and environment we lived in. It is better to be safe than sorry, as they say.

Prior to moving in, my husband has been considering so many security system to used in the house. He found out that ADT home security offers the best 24/7 monitoring system equipped with wireless remote access, a wireless system and a number of other monitoring alerts. All of us wants to make sure that our home is safe 24/7 and that even if we are far away from home somebody is watching our property while we are gone. ADT would make us free from anxiety while we are on vacation or while travelling. We do not know when thief and burglar would strike, it is better to be prepared. If people know that your home is protected by an alarm system, it is a simple sign that says thief & burglars, keep off my property !!!

Most of our friends are using ADT home security and they highly recommended that this is the best way to protect our home. I think we need to get one soon !

Gabz is looking for a new challenge !

The other day, me and Gabz went to the mall to do some window shopping. After a while she asked me if she could play in Kids Cove (a play area inside Bellevue Square). So off we went to the play area, while she played I tried to do some reading and relax. After five minutes, I spotted her under a small tunnel sitting by herself. I asked her what is she doing and she said that she is bored !!! Oh my Gosh " She is bored !" It is very unlikely of Gabz to be bored in the play area. So I asked her if she wanted to go home, automatically she said yes.

On the next day, me and my friend Cecil brought the kids to the playground near our place. It was just a small play ground intended for smaller kids. Of course at first they were excited, Gabz love the swing a lot, so the moment they step on the playground they went through the swing. Ten minutes in the swing, we asked them to play in the slide so other kids could used it. She went to the slide, walked around it but not interested ! She walked around it many times, maybe looking for a new challenge but could not find one.

Opposite of that small playground is another area for bigger kids. She went in there, so I have to follow. There was a few big climbing stones in there. She tried to climb those up to the top, she did it with the rest of all the stones too. She want to reach the big monkey bars as well but could not reach it, unfortunately I could not carry her. I keep telling her that those are for big kids only, but really really wanted to try it.

This behavior of Gabz makes me realized that, my little girl is not so little anymore. She is bored with things that she used to love. She is now ready to try new and challenging things. Sometimes it is difficult for us parents to let them try, but for me they would never learn unless we let them do it. Right now I am trying to find a place where I could enroll her to a swimming lesson, maybe that would make her occupied and enjoy the summer too !
